2, 900 HOMELESS
APPROXIMATELY 350 EPISODIC
The issues surrounding homelessness are vast and complex and it has been said that “perfect equality [does not] exist across geographical space” (Soja, 2010). In Calgary, approximately 3000 people experience homelessness nightly, with a little over a tenth of those being those who are considered episodic, or those who go in and out of shelters for short periods of time. These episodic users of homeless shelters are on the edge between either going into shelters long term, or finally breaking the cycle of homelessness forever.
MIND THE GAP deploys the necessary infrastructure to both challenge the stigmas of episodic homelessness and to enable their reintegration back into society, bridging the gap between what exists, to reveal potential opportunities of what could be.
